Your Personal Story

It is a great joy and an awesome privilege to lead someone to the Lord. The most effective way to share about Jesus is to tell what He has done for you.

The Bible commands us, Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1 Peter 3.15). God commands you to be ready to help others know Him!

Sometimes our best opportunities are the spontaneous ones that we don't plan, so you need to be ready when the time comes. Use the guidelines below to develop your story and be fully prepared to share when God provides the opportunity.

  • Write a story about how God has changed your life, or how He has worked powerfully. This could be your salvation story, but a more recent story could have a greater impact on the people with whom you share.
  • Include one verse from the Bible (you don't need to state the reference).

  • Keep it short! You should be able to tell your story in less than two minutes.

  • Rehearse it several times, then practise it aloud with someone else.

  • Share your story first as an example when you are training others.

  • Develop other stories to build a repertoire of topics that allow you to share in various situations.
