The S.O.S Bible Study Method

S.O.S. is a simple yet effective method for studying the Bible which has been used in Asia for many years. Unlike most Bible studies, the focus is not merely on learning Bible knowledge but in obeying what God says. Best of all, it is so simple that anyone can learn in a matter of minutes, meaning that it can be reproduced rapidly.

The method is very simple. Read a passage of Scripture and then ask three basic questions:

  • S - What does it SAY? Discuss the obvious meaning of the passage, share the truths you discover, or let each person retell the story in their own words.

  • O - What must I OBEY? Each person should look for something that challenges him or her individually from that passage. "What is God saying to me that I should do or change in my life?" Let each person share, then hold one another accountable to do what God has commanded.

  • S - With whom can I SHARE? Let each person think of someone outside the group that needs to hear what he or she is learning. This is your vital connection with people in the outside world.
